On March 12, IMM and IM2B launched the IMMpulse cycle with a first day dedicated to public-private relations, bringing together researchers, innovation players and funders in the Desnuelle amphitheatre (Joseph Aiguier campus). The aim of this workshop was to provide the keys to transforming scientific projects into concrete collaborations with the socio-economic world.

This first edition of IMMpulse is fully in line with IM2B’s objective to strengthen links between laboratories and local economic players. The workshop began with opening remarks from Frédéric Poignant (Project Manager, PUI Provence), David Pignol (Director, IM2B), Deborah Byrne (Director, IMM) and Jérémy Wozniak (Innovation Officer, IMM), who outlined the strategic challenges of developing public-private partnerships. The event benefited from the participation of major local innovation stakeholders: PUI Provence –Pôle Universitaire d'Innovation, CISAM-Cité de l'Innovation et des Savoirs Aix-Marseille, A*Midex, MER-Mission Europe pour la Recherche, Capénergies, Novachim, as well as Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence. National stakeholders were also present, including the National Research Agency and the National Association for Research and Technology. Members of IM2B shared their experiences to illustrate certain funding schemes and their benefits for the academic community: the Young PhD Student Employment Scheme (EJD) of the Sud Region, the CIFRE scheme, and LabCom. Through short presentations, round-table discussions and testimonials, participants were able to gain practical and actionable insights into developing research in collaboration with partners from the socio-economic sector.

Discussions continued during a buffet lunch, fostering connections between research teams, innovation support organisations and funders.

By laying the foundations for a shared culture of collaborative research, IMMpulse #1 represents a key milestone in fostering new academic–industrial partnerships. This initiative will continue at future IMMpulse workshops, as well as at the Biopartners Day scheduled for 28 April, and through IM2B’s support for the initiation of collaborative research projects.
