Our ecosystem

The IM2B institute comprises the members of 11 research units as well as a research federation. We therefore bring together around 400 regular staff from Aix Marseille Université, the CNRS, the CEA, the INRAE, and also the Inserm, the IRD and Centrale Méditerranée.

The Research units

  • Fungal biodiversity and biotechnology lab (BBF)
  • Aix-Marseille biosciences and biotechnologies institute (BIAM)
  • Bioenergetics and protein engineering (BIP)
  • Mediterranean institute for oceanology (MIO)
  • Architecture and function of biological macromolecules (AFMB)
  • Genomic & structural information (IGS)
  • Bacterial chemistry laboratory (LCB) (LCB)
  • Laboratory for macromolecular systems engineering (LISM)
  • Membranes and therapeutic targets (MCT)
  • Marseille institute for molecular science - Biosciences team (iSm2)

Bénédicte BURLAT
Senior Lecturer, AMU

I'm the coordinator of the FeShijack project, supported by the IM2B Institute and an awardee of A*Midex's AAP Interdisciplinarité 2021. This collaborative project, led by 3 teams from the BIP, IGS and LCB laboratories, explores the role of iron-sulfur centers in giant viruses. The IM2B was a real catalyst in launching this emerging theme and positioning us for future AAPs.
